The Veteran's of Foreign Wars Organization numbers approximately 2.1 million members. The largest of the membership is made up of World War II vets (1.1 million), Korean War vets (441,000), and Vietnam War vets (504,000). The remainder are from Haiti, Somalia, Persian Gulf War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon and many other expeditionary campaigns and occupation duties.
ELIGIBILITY
VFW membership is available to all U.S. Citizens, honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces and who have earned an overseas campaign medal. Since WWII, a service medal has been awarded for 3 wars, 8 places of occupation, 24 multi-service operations, and 10 Navy and Marine expeditions as well as a ribbon for 2 separate ship actions. Veterans of all of these military actions are eligible for the VFW.
